Brief Description: Wing tie down, aileron rod clearance
Used a half-round file to enlarge the outboard spar holes to clear the aileron pushrod that rubbed slightly. Not as big a chore as I expected, about 20 minutes of hand filing on each side. Vacuumed out all the filings.
Checked with Sonex regarding the wing tie down. They confirmed they drill a hole in the locking handle. Kerry suggested a 1/4" to 5/16" size. He also confirmed the Sonex bracket method would be OK. He didn't think drilling a hole in the spar flange, as the AirWard kit does, was a good idea but was going to check with Jeremy.
Given that information, I fabricated a bracket as is in the Sonex plans and installed it using existing bolts in the inboard spar web. I'm still considering using a screw-in eyebolt option for the bracket so I haven't drilled the bolt holes yet. I could also just drill a hole and install an eyebold whenever needed since there is easy access to the backside though the web holes with the wing folded. Just to cover all the bases, I also drilled a 5/16" hole in the end of the locking handle. It's a lot easier to do it now prior to the final installation.
